Bannock!

What an exciting day in Kindergarten! We made fresh bannock and it was delicious! The kids measured and mixed the ingredients, including sifting the flour (which was a big hit with everyone) and then we waited patiently while it baked. Enjoying bannock straight from the oven with butter, jam, peanut butter or cheez whiz was a real treat. Our best morning snack yet! :) Thanks to everyone who helped make this activity possible.

Getting Creative with Colours!

We had so much fun learning about colours! The kids made rainbow fish with stamps using celery. They also made circle art using the primary colours - red, blue and yellow. Two centers were for colour mixing. At one the kids used eye droppers to mix coloured water on diffusing paper and at the other they mixed finger paint with their hands! It was a little messy that afternoon, but very memorable and lots of fun!

A Trip to the Fire Station

Last week, we took a field trip to the Swan River Fire Station to learn more about fire safety and the job that firefighters do. The fire chief and the firefighters were wonderful to us and taught us all about the fire trucks and equipment. They answered all our questions and now the kids are running their own fire station in our classroom. The kids were thrilled with this trip and are still talking about it a week later!!

Mmmm.....Cookies!

The kids were super excited to bake gingerbread cookies. We followed the recipe and mixed the dough together. Then each child got to roll some dough and cut out cookies to bake. The next day the kids decorated the cookies and then we invited Kindergarten B to join us for a delicious snack! The kids were thrilled to create gingerbread men, gingerbread babies, gingerbread girls and gingerbread cowboys - just like all of the books we have been reading in class.

Morning Literacy Centers

Our literacy centers are now in full swing! We spent time in December and the beginning of January learning about these centers and how to use them and now the children have become very independent. While they work on their tasks in small groups, I am able to call children for guided reading sessions. We have some great little readers in Kindergarten!
