Gingerbread Village

Kindergarten A was so excited to build a gingerbread village this year for the Festival of Trees! We worked in little groups to create each house with Nate's mom to help. Of course, once the houses were decorated, everybody had their own little gingerbread man to cover with candies and eat! Yum....

Soapstone Carving

We were so lucky to get to carve soapstone pendants with Mr. Many Eagles. He showed us his own carvings and then taught us how to use files to shape our pendants and scrubbers to make them smooth. It was so cool!

A Little Bit of Drama!!

We read a lot of stories and rhymes about cats this fall. The kids had so much fun acting out Five Silly Kittens Jumping on the Bed! They are wonderful actors and had so much enthusiasm. There may be some future movie stars in our midst!!

Halloween Happenings!

On October 30th, we did many Halloween activities. In the morning, the kids, with lots of help, got to clean and carve their own pumpkins! They also made pumpkin puppets and ghost pops. In the afternoon everyone dressed up and we toured throughout the school to share our Halloween excitement!! Afterward, we played Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin, shared treats and went to the gym for a Halloween dance with our friends from Kindergarten B. The kids had a blast!

Super Sorters!

We spent a week taking part in sorting centers that allowed the kids to be very hands on with their learning. They sorted many different materials, did sorting puzzles and games and tried practising their sorting skills on the I pads. The kids were able to talk about what they were doing and help each other learn.

Play Doh Practice

Letter practice is so much fun - especially when you do it with Play-Doh! This is a great way to spend time on letter formation and recognition, plus it helps with fine motor strength. The kids get so engaged they just think they are playing but they are really learning so much...

Center Time Fun!

Of course in Kindergarten, one of the best times in the day is Center Time! The kids are wonderful at sharing and taking care of the toys and materials. We are working on setting up our new Vet Center. All the kids have been making signs, food and cages so our Vet Clinic can open soon!

Gingerbread Friends

Our Kindergarten class spent a lot of time reading different Gingerbread stories like The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Cowboy, The Gingerbread Baby, The Gingerbread Kid and Gingerbread Friends. We retold these stories, created our own gingerbread art and wrote our own class book called The Gingerbread Penguin. We also opened a play-doh bakery with lots of treats for sale each day. Finally the kids got to bake and decorate their own gingerbread friends. The very best part was eating them! Yum! :)

100 Day Hats

We had a wonderful time celebrating 100 days of hard work in Kindergarten. The kids were split up into groups and got to visit 5 stations. They went sliding to 100 at the hill, made 100 day hats, played guessing games, popped 100 kernels of popcorn, did 100 piece puzzles and made a 100 day snack. They enjoyed all the stations! It was a fabulous day!

Super Sculptures

In January the Kindergarten kids got to make snow dough sculptures! First they had to make the dough using salt, flour and water and then used their imaginations to create the most wonderful artwork. We cooked the dough all day and the next day everyone painted their sculptures. It was great! Thanks to our volunteers who helped!

Number News

Wow! It has been a while since we put new pictures up... In our room we have spent the last few weeks really working on our numbers. The kids visited a variety of centers and played lots of different games to practice their number formation, recognition, ordering and counting skills. Learning through play makes the learning more meaningful at this age!
